TL;DR
  • New Cooking builds the campfire every camp needs, and higher Cooking means bigger camps (3 → 5 → 10 features).
  • New Crafted food now gives +5% kill XP on top of its stat buff. Raid foods want the Iron Oven.
  • Secondary profession: every character should have it. Pair with Fishing.

What's new New

  • Basic Campfire at Cooking 1: holds 3 camp features. Kit costs 1 Simple Wood, with Flint and Tinder in your bags Live
  • Journeyman Campfire holds 5: learn the Blueprint at 90 (Lord Serpentis, Wailing Caverns, 0.39%), place it at 140 (Star Wood) Beta
  • Expert Campfire holds 10: Blueprint at 200 (source not known yet), place it at 220 (Thick Logs) Beta
  • Kits have a 5 min cooldown, not the 1 h camp feature cooldown Beta
  • Well Fed food: Blizzard promises a small XP bonus Live. On the beta tooltips: eat for 10 s, stat buff for 15 min plus +5% XP from kills Beta
  • Early examples: Tasty Raptor Bites (skill 25), Breakfast Omelette (75), Twice-Spiced Raptor Slice (75) Beta
  • New raid foods (skill 275, Iron Oven): +20 Str (Bear Bruscitti, Steaming Stag Steak), +20 Agi (Swiftstrike Steak, Flank au Poivre), +20 Int (Prehistoric Pulled Raptor, Soaring Pamplona, Bat Hachee) Beta
  • Classic favourites now need the Iron Oven: Grilled Squid (+1% crit), Poached Sunscale Salmon and Mightfish Steak (+40 AP), Baked Salmon (+28 spell damage) Beta
  • Sage's Tea: mana drink, +44 healing power Beta
  • Sweetpaw Jam: +15% movement speed while in Hyjal Beta
  • Savory Whimsyfin Delight (Redridge fish): turns you into an Orc ninja or pirate for 1 h Beta
  • Legacy perks: Master Chef (chance of extra results from recipes), Gourmand (longer food buffs) Live

Camp features

  • Cookie's Feast (140): lays out Stamina food for the camp. Blueprint: Cookie (Deadmines), 0.26% Beta
  • Iron Oven (300): needed for the most advanced recipes. Blueprint source not known yet Beta
  • Both need a cooking fire nearby Beta

Levelling outline

  • Both calculators (ForeverDB, endgametools) start on the first meat you find and finish with Poached Sunscale Salmon; Coyote Steak (~65-103) is in both. The middle differs, so cook what you loot Beta
  • endgametools' middle is mostly trainer recipes: Crab Cake, Goblin Deviled Clams, Spider Sausage Beta
  • ! Icy Veins and endgametools both say the Salmon needs an Iron Oven, and that is a skill-300 feature. Find a Cook with an oven before you buy salmon; whether you can use another Cook's oven is not confirmed Beta

Ranks (Horde)

  • Apprentice and Journeyman: any Cooking trainer Beta
  • ! Expert: buy the Expert Cookbook from Wulan, Shadowprey Village (Desolace), and read it at skill 125 Beta
  • ! Artisan: at level 35 and skill 225, do Clamlette Surprise for Dirge Quikcleave, Gadgetzan inn Beta
  • The Expert and Artisan steps are from Icy Veins only; Wowhead confirms both NPCs and places
  • Merchant's Favor recipes: Aza'bek at the Durotar Supply and Logistics hub Beta

Gold value

  • No launch prices yet Beta
  • Our opinion: the +5% kill XP makes any Well Fed food worth selling to levellers
  • Our opinion: raid foods need an Iron Oven, so Cooks who have one hold the supply from 9 Dec

Who wants it

  • Everyone: it's a secondary, and you need Cooking 1 to light a camp
  • Our suggestion: one Cook per levelling group, for the 5- or 10-feature fire
