TL;DR
- We're Horde on the PvP ruleset: outside Horde-controlled zones you're flagged automatically, and every alt on that ruleset must be Horde.
- New Ranks are per season, not the old realm-wide grind: earn Rank Points to rank 14, with a weekly cap. Honor buys a blue set; rank-gated Emboldened Seals upgrade it to epic.
- New New 15v15 battleground Darkspear Islands (30-60), alongside Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley. No arenas or rated PvP announced.
Living on the PvP ruleset
- Blizzard: on PvP you are "almost always at risk of being attacked by opposing players".
- Flagging is automatic once you leave zones your own faction controls (Icy Veins, Warcraft Tavern). ! Icy Veins says that's most zones above about level 15. Blizzard hasn't published a zone list, including for the new zones.
- ! No protection by level range or group size, so expect ganking (Warcraft Tavern).
- World kills give Honor. Blizzard names only battlegrounds and PvP quests as Rank Point sources, so world PvP pays Honor, not rank.
- New One faction per account on this ruleset. Your first character there sets it.
- New Faction balance uses Season of Discovery's tools: new character creation can be paused for the bigger faction. If Horde is the busy side on launch night, you may have to wait.
- New No free moves between rulesets: to play another one, make a new character there.
- New Legacy perk High Alert (better stealth detection outside battlegrounds) is the one built for world PvP.
New Darkspear Islands (Blizzard)
- 15v15, off the coast of Dustwallow Marsh, levels 30-60.
- Hold four capture points: the more you hold, the faster you score. A central flag scores extra when you carry it to a base your team controls. First to 2,000 points wins.
- Queue at a battlemaster in any capital city, or at the Darkspear Raiders base on the Merchant Coast (the Barrens), which has a portal in.
- Darkspear Raiders is our rep, with a vendor at that base: trinkets, rings, cloaks, weapons, armour and consumables, unlocked by standing.
- Turn in Marks of Honor for rep quests. At Exalted, a short questline gives the tabard.
Other battlegrounds
- Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley are in. Blizzard references AV in the Honor rework, Legacy counts four battleground reps, and the beta client lists all four maps.
- ! Icy Veins (beta-era, single source; other guides copy it):
| BG | Size | Levels |
|---|---|---|
| Warsong Gulch | 10v10 | 10-60 |
| Arathi Basin | 15v15 | 20-60 |
| Darkspear Is. | 15v15 | 30-60 |
| Alterac Valley | 40v40 | 51-60 |
- ! Same source: 10-level brackets with 60 on its own; AV is one bracket.
- New Honor gains were evened out across battlegrounds, so AV is no longer the only efficient farm. Highlighted battlegrounds give extra Honor and Rank Points during their holiday weeks.
- New Battleground queues can include players from other rulesets (Hardcore excepted), but you still can't group with them.
New Honor and Rank Points (Blizzard)
- Honor is a currency. It comes from killing players, finishing battlegrounds and PvP quests. You spend it on gear.
- Rank Points come from battlegrounds and PvP quests and move you up the ranks to High Warlord. Ranks have a weekly cap, so a marathon weekend won't finish it.
- Track it on the Character pane (C), PvP tab: your rank, your Rank Points and what you can buy.
- ! Ranks reset each season, and progress doesn't decay mid-season (guides plus the dev Q&A).
Gear
- Honor buys two sets: a blue set, then an epic set. To upgrade a piece you need the blue piece plus an Emboldened Seal, which has a rank requirement.
- New New PvP sets fill gaps for specs that had none. Shaman, for example, now get healer, melee and caster sets.
