Legacy system
Forever beta 1.60.1.70009
On this page 8 sections
TL;DR
- New Account-wide progression: 65 challenges, 1 Legacy Point each, shared by all your non-Hardcore characters.
- Each character spends up to 16 points in three perk trees: Adventure, Professions, Resourcefulness.
- Biggest win for us (our read): a fresh alt can spend your account's points from the start.
Basics
- Opens with your first point: usually your first character reaching 25, or 150 in a non-gathering primary profession, or exploring the whole world map Live
- Open it with Y or the shield icon on the menu bar Live
- Points are account-wide; every character spends its own 16 independently Live
- One character can earn up to 29 (3 levelling, 6 professions, 12 PvP, 2 Adventure, 6 dungeons and raids), so 16 needs no alts Live
- Total points earned also unlock cosmetics (see Rewards) Live
- Hardcore (after launch): normal-ruleset challenges do not count there, but a challenge earned in Hardcore counts everywhere; 12 Hardcore-only challenges arrive with it Live
- Blizzard expects to add challenges, perks, higher spending caps, new columns and later new trees; new challenges come with each content update Live
The 65 challenges
- Classes (27): reach 25, 45 and 60 on each of the 9 classes
- Tradeskills (18): reach 150, 225 and 300 in each non-gathering primary profession
- PvP (12): honour ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14; Exalted with each of the 4 battleground reputations (Alterac Valley, Arathi Basin, Warsong Gulch, Darkspear Islands); Field of Honor weeks 4, 7 and 10
- Adventure (2): explore the whole world map on one character; finish the Lord Valthalak questline
- Dungeons (3): kill the final boss of every dungeon in the 15-25, 26-45 and 46-60 ranges
- Raids (3): Onyxia; all 13 Hyjal Summit bosses; all 8 Barrow Deeps bosses
- The Field of Honor weeks are the season journey tasks; they stay open in later seasons, so you can catch up
- The 4 battlegrounds are named by Icy Veins and classicwowforever (beta data); Blizzard only says "each Battleground reputation"

What to pick first (speed levelling)
Our read of the perk text, not a Blizzard recommendation:
- Your first character gets its first point at 25 at the earliest, so Legacy mostly speeds up alts
- Alt opener: Well Rested 5/5 then Talented 5/5 (10 points, fits either reading of the Talented gate). Talented 5/5 starts talent points at level 5, so you stay 5 points ahead until you reach 51 at level 55
- Remaining 6 points: Thrill of Adventure 5/5 (less eating between pulls), or Field Guide 3/3 + Frequent Flier (4 points, cheaper and faster flights) plus High Alert 2/2
- High Alert matters on our PvP ruleset: it spots stealthed enemies as if you were 2 levels higher, outside battlegrounds
- Dungeon alts: put 2 of the remaining points in The Quick and the Dead for faster wipe recovery
- A Leatherworker's Camp Tent tops your rested XP up to 5% of a level (no effect if you already have more); handy on top of Well Rested
- Points earned on alts (25, 45 and 60 per class) feed every character, so levelling alts is itself Legacy progress
